In this course, students learn organic chemistry, including carboxylic acids, nitriles, carboxylic acid derivatives, amines, polycyclic and heterocyclic compounds, pericyclic reactions, reactive intermediates (carbocations, carbanions, free radicals, and carbenes), organic reaction mechanisms, metabolic pathways, and synthetic polymers. The course emphasizes the relationships between molecular structure, chemical reactivity, reaction mechanisms, stereochemistry, and synthetic applications in modern organic chemistry.
