This course introduces students to the study of meaning in context, focusing on how language is used in real communication. It covers key concepts in pragmatics, including deixis, reference, inference, presupposition, implicature, speech acts, politeness, and discourse strategies. Students will examine how meaning is shaped by context, speaker intention, and social interaction. The course emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application, encouraging students to analyze authentic texts and interactions. In addition, students will be guided to design small-scale research projects related to pragmatics in English education, enabling them to connect pragmatic theories with classroom practice and intercultural communication.
