Basic Chemistry is a course taken in the early semesters and serves as an essential foundation for Geophysical Engineering students. This course is oriented towards understanding fundamental chemistry concepts, including: the structure of matter, basic chemical laws, the concept of the mole, stoichiometry, energy and its changes, atomic structure, chemical bonding, and the properties of substances in various phases. Mastery of this material will provide the fundamental knowledge necessary to support geochemical analysis, material modeling, and the application of chemistry in geoscience and geophysics.
