Course Description: English Teaching Assessment

This course will discuss about assessment of students’ English achievement, how to design and how to create the instrument to assess it artificially and authentically. This knowledge and skills are of paramount importance for those who deal with English language teaching and learning.

The competences to be achieved through this course are that students understand the evaluation of English learning and that they are able to develop English language assessment instruments: English tests and non-tests by reviewing the principles of evaluation of language learning and learning, types of English achievement instruments, practicing identifying types of language learning evaluation instruments, assessing types of language tests, practicing identifying good language tests according to indicators of learning success and to the principles of developing language tests, practicing designing language tests that are in accordance with indicators of learning success, practice making listening, speaking, reading, writing, structure and vocabulary test items according to indicators of learning success, assessing the principles of language test validation, assessing the characteristics of a good language test, practicing identifying good language tests, by practicing to carry out language test validation (try-out, option analysis, difficulty level analysis, discrepancy, reliability, validity), practice revising language tests based on validation results, students study the principles of implementing language tests, the types of assessment instrument that are in accordance with the indicators of learning success, practicing designing learning outcome evaluation instruments, reviewing various ways of evaluating students' language performance, practicing making language performance tasks for students, practicing giving tasks to students, practicing assessing learning outcomes, practicing analyzing students’ work results, reviewing the concepts and methods of assessing the teaching and learning process, practicing making various ways of assessing the teaching and learning process, practicing giving an assessment of the abilities of peers, practicing peer assessments of the abilities of peers in practicing English learning techniques, practicing peer assessment to their peer’s ability in practicing making various types of teaching and learning product evaluations, practicing collecting data (questionnaires, portfolios, interviews) for basic self-reflection, practicing carry out self-reflection and practice diagnosing the results of evaluation of learning processes and products, and practice diagnosing the results of performance evaluation on their own.
