In my opinion, the main objective of implementing a carbon tax is to influence the behavior of economic actors, prompting them to shift towards low-carbon, green economic activities. This aligns with various government initiatives aimed at achieving medium and long-term targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
As a highly strategic policy in addressing climate change, the imposition of a carbon tax sends a powerful signal that fosters the development of carbon markets, technological innovation, and more efficient, low-carbon, and environmentally friendly investments. In the context of development, the government's revenue from the carbon tax can be utilized to contribute in development funds, invest in environmentally friendly technologies, or provide support to low-income communities through social programs.
The implementation of a carbon tax and the development of carbon markets are crucial milestones toward Indonesia's sustainable economy. These initiatives not only contribute to environmental conservation but also position Indonesia as a serious player in the global effort to combat climate change.
