Reading for General Communication ED26C

This course introduces students to fundamental reading skills and strategies required to comprehend English texts used in everyday and general communication. Students are trained to apply bottom-up and top-down reading strategies such as skimming, scanning, identifying main ideas and supporting details, guessing meaning from context, recognizing reference and cohesive devices, and making inferences, to comprehend a variety of short functional, factual, and digital texts such as signs, notices, advertisements, personal correspondence, emails, social media posts, recount, narrative, procedure, and report texts, as well as short news items. Learning is conducted through a student-centered approach (collaborative learning, task-based learning, and discussion) integrated with the use of information technology, and is directed toward achieving a minimum reading proficiency equivalent to CEFR Level B2.
