The International Monetary Economics course discusses the dynamics of monetary and financial policy in the context of the global economy. Students will study foreign exchange rate systems, purchasing power and interest rate parity theories, as well as exchange rate determination models. Other topics include government intervention in foreign exchange markets, balance of payments, international monetary crises, and the role of international institutions such as the IMF. In addition, this course highlights the challenges of monetary policy in open economies, the theory of optimal currency areas, as well as the impact of globalization and international financial instruments. Students will gain an in-depth understanding of how monetary policy interacts with global markets and affects international economic stability.
